Curanderos offer a mystical blend of healing arts that has inspired the confidence of rich and poor alike. They practice a variety of treatments, such as using herbs and spiritual cleansings, to heal both “folk” illnesses and spiritual ailments common in Mexican culture. Many influences have shaped the system itself and have composed what it is today. Although many curanderos do have a specialty and may identify with it, that does not mean that these healing modalities are necessarily strict and do not overlap. Much of the system lies in spirituality and the use of herbal and plant remedies.
